Fire extinguisher equipment norwich

Fire extinguisher servicing is an essential annual requirement to meet BS5306-3:2017 standards. As part of our continuous maintenance program for clients, we offer this service, guaranteeing that your equipment remains in optimal condition. Additionally, customers should perform monthly self-checks and promptly inform us of any concerns. These measures will extend the lifespan of your equipment, enhancing safety and reducing costs.

Extended extinguisher servicing, periodic discharge testing and pressure testing

Apart from scheduled annual maintenance, it’s important to note that every few years, typically around 5 years for water, foam, and powder extinguishers, they should undergo discharge testing. This testing, known as an extended service, for CO2 extinguishers we provide an overhaul service, this is essential to ensure their functionality and internal condition are in optimal order.

We have the full range of fire extinguisher servicing apparatus here at 1st Class Fire protection. We’ll help you with everything you need to ensure your property or commercial premises is protected and compliant with the latest regulations.

Should I recharge or replace my current fire extinguishers?

Fire extinguishers typically need to be replaced every 10 to 20 years, providing they are well-maintained. But it is important to look for damage in your monthly inspection, and act upon signs of wear and tear. While this list is far from exhaustive, these are some of the key warning signs that you need to replace your fire extinguisher:

  • The external shell is dented or otherwise damaged.
  • The handle is unstable.
  • The pin on the handle is either missing or broken.
  • The fire extinguisher’s nozzle is damaged in some way – whether blocked, cracked, or torn.
  • The inspection tag is missing.

If you are at all unsure about the viability of your fire extinguishers, contact our team today to organise a professional inspection.

What accreditations does 1st Class Fire Protection have?

Do fire extinguishers expire?

The short answer here, is ‘yes’. The long answer is a little more complicated. Fire extinguishers do not come with a fixed stated expiry date. This is because their lifespan depends on a number of factors: their condition; how and where they’ve been stored; and how well they’ve been maintained.

You should be inspecting all of your fire extinguishers on a monthly basis, having them serviced annually by a professional company, and arranging an extended service every five to 10 years, depending on the extinguisher type.

If you do all of these things, the chances are that your fire extinguishers will last anything between 10 and 20 years…

Find out more by reading our dedicated article written about fire extinguisher expiration.

Can you dispose of old extinguishers when they're replaced during a service?

Because fire extinguishers are classified as hazardous waste, they need to be disposed of carefully. Environmental regulations mean that you should not discharge the units unnecessarily. Here at 1st Class Fire Protection, we offer a fire extinguisher disposal service for a low and simple cost of £3.40 per extinguisher. Get in touch with our team to find out more.
